What is chemotherapy?

Chemotherapy is a treatment that stops cancer cells from growing, dividing and making more cells. Chemotherapy often works throughout the body, helping to attack cancer cells that have spread throughout the body.

 

Chemotherapy Procedures:

  • Ingestion (Oral) – Oral intake of drugs in tablet or liquid form.
  • Injection ( IV) Therapy – Intravenous administration of drugs.

Side effects of chemotherapy:

  • Fatigue
  • Vomiting and fainting
  • Hair loss
  • Effects on blood vessels and immune system

The goals of chemotherapy is to help kill cancer cells completely or control their growth. It can be used alone or in combination with other treatments (radiotherapy, surgery).

 Chemotherapy treatment should be done after consultation with a cancer specialist (oncologist) as it depends on the patient’s individual health status, type and spread of the cancer.
